Overview
Proudly surveying its estate from the crest of a hill is Badia, an aristocratic country house whose noble origins are plain to see. The surrounding vineyards hint at the villa's former role as a winery while the citrus orchards, olive groves and views of the Ionian Sea and the looming splendour of Mount Etna are a constant reminder of your whereabouts. The recent renovation of the outhouses and the main villa has brought this truly special place back to its former grandeur, a grandeur which will only be fully revealed once you climb down to the enormous cellar and its heated indoor pool with swimming pump.
The Property
Inside: Badia comprises three guesthouses and the ground / basement of the main villa. The guesthouses all have a double bedroom, a living area, a bathroom and a kitchen. The larger one also has a single room. Inside the main villa is an absolutely enormous open-plan, wood-beamed living cum dining area complete with a drop-down home cinema screen and disco-quality hi-fi system. Off this is the fully-equipped kitchen and guest bathroom. For larger groups in the main villa there are also a double and a single room that share a bathroom. Down below in the vaulted cellar is the really unique feature of the villa - the heated little pool with swimming pump!
Outside: each of the three guesthouses has its own panoramic private outside seating areas, though the focal point will undoubtedly be the stunning pool which has been created to blend in as naturally as possible with the surrounding areas. Al fresco dining areas jostle for preference, views abound and silence reigns, leaving Nature to get on with her busy schedule while you take it easy.
The Area
Situated between the towns of Acireale and Riposto on the east coast of Sicily about half way between Catania and Taormina, Badia is a good base from which to visit Taormina, Catania, Mount Etna and the various fascinating villages on its flanks. There are also several charming fishing villages and some nice beaches nearby. An eighteen hole golf course is about 45 minutes drive away.
Further afield, Syracuse, the baroque towns of the Noto valley, the quiet beaches of Vendicari and Capo Passero to the south and Messina to the north are all comfortably reachable for day trips.
