The Property
Inside: the property consists of three Dammusi, the main house and two smaller dependences. The main entrance takes you to a path leading to the first larger dependance on the right with sea view terrace. Inside there is a double bedroom, a kitchen and a spacious, bright bathroom including gym area. Following the path down a few steps is the second dependance with private terrace, a double bedroom a small kitchen and a bathroom with shower. Retracing your steps and ascending a few stairs you will arrive at the large terrace of the main house. Inside is a wonderful fitted kitchen, a dining room and a small corridor leading to a living room. From here a few steps lead to the main double bedroom with bathroom and a private courtyard. On the same floor of the living area is a spacious double bedroom and a single bedroom, sharing a bathroom.
Outside: the property is surrounded by a beautiful mixture of lawns and Mediterranean plants and boasts fabulous sea views. Each of the three houses has its own panoramic private outside seating areas, though the focal point will certainly be the stunning infinity pool which has been created to blend seamlessly into its context. There are plenty of spots to relax in privacy around the property, a gazebo by the pool with a large table, chairs, barbecue and minibar is perfect for dinners or at aperitif time. In the garden down below the small dependence is the amazingly positioned heated hydro-massage pool great for a dip at sunsets or just relaxing in the silence of the sunrise.
The Area
Pantelleria is the largest of the Sicilian islands and its proximity to Africa has led to invasion by Phoenecians, Greeks and Arabs on their way to Sicily. More recently, the island has become a chic destination for the world’s celebrities. Giorgio Armani and Gerard Depardieu have houses here and Madonna and Sting head a long list of visitors on which Pantelleria has left its mark.
The island has no real beaches, instead the coastline is made up of black volcanic rock which give the water a deep blue hue, making swimming and diving particularly spectacular. There are also some underwater hot springs around the coast, creating some fabulous natural Jacuzzis.
There are several charming villages dotting both the coastline and the interior of the island. There is some splendid walking and you can take mud baths in the volcanic lake (lago di Venere).
The food is unique too, with the locally produced “tumma” (a type of cheese), capers in abundance and a huge variety of fish and pasta dishes. Pantelleria is also famous for its wine, made from the indigenous Zibbibo grape, the best of which is the Passito made from raisins.

Think About
The friendly, discreet owner may take one of the dammusi if you have not booked all three, but will not disturb guests, who will have exclusive use of the gardens and pool. Pantelleria is a favoured holiday retreat of many stars. Giorgio Armani, Gerard Depardieu and Carole Bouquet all have houses there. Madonna, Sting and many others have holidayed there.
