Overview
Hera is a lovingly restored stone farmhouse on a beautiful aristocratic estate overlooking the Greek temples at Selinunte. Just a couple of miles from white sand beaches, it offers full service, comfort and elegant style. It is full of interesting design touches, such as the communicating suites, the cleverly designed beds and the beautifully finished windows that maximise the light whilst drawing attention to the incredibly thick stone walls. The estate brims with citrus and olive groves, and offers its privileged guests a view of a Sicily that is rarely seen outside the very private walls of such a place.
The Property
Inside: the original farmhouse consists of four adjoining areas on two levels. These have been skilfully transformed into three luxuriously appointed suites, which, during the day, open into a fascinating selection of living areas that communicate seamlessly with the terraces and gardens. Two double bedrooms and one with a French bed are on mezzanine levels and each has its own well-appointed bathroom (two on the ground floor). The ground floor is home to the third double (or twin) bedroom, a series of living areas, a dining room and a kitchen. The staff prepares meals in another kitchen behind the main house.
Outside: Hera is reached via a track winding through the olive groves. The house is immersed in a rich Mediterranean garden dotted with the orange, lemon and olive trees. There are several elegantly furnished terrace areas and many spots for shady reading and relaxation. The superb infinity pool, without a doubt one of the finest in the thinkSicily range, is built to resemble an original water tank. It is purified with a state of the art ecological filtration system and affords distance view of the Greek temples of Selinunte. There is also an original ground water well, which is used for irrigation and feeds a soothing fountain to the rear of the house. The property offers views of the Greek Temple of Hera, from which it takes its name.
The Area
The south western part of Sicily is often referred to as African Sicily, both for its climate and its proximity to the Tunisian coast. It boasts some of the most extensive olive and grape production in Sicily, so the local oil and wine are not to be missed!
Nearby attractions include the fantastic Greek town of Selinunte, with some of the best preserved temples anywhere, as well as Marsala (made famous by the wine first produced by the Englishman John Woodhouse) and Mazara del Vallo, a charming fishing town.
Also within very easy reach are Segesta, Palermo, Erice, Trapani, The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and a host of other places of cultural interest.

thinkAbout
Owing to the presence of several open staircases, and the position of the beds against the railings of the mezzanine floors, we do not recommend this house for young children.
