Overview
A charming and welcoming family run hotel which has become a favourite with our clients looking for an introduction to the Aeolian islands. Relax beside the pool and admire the views of Stromboli, walk down the hill to the rocky beach, or take off on exhilarating hikes around the island, in our opinion the most rewarding of the Aeolians. Signum is ideally located, 5 minutes walk from the central piazza of Malfa (with a few shops, a restaurant and a beautiful Church with its “belvedere”). The hotel’s wellness centre Signum SPA Salus per Aquam, gives guests the opportunity to relax in style and enjoy a little well-deserved pampering. The geothermic waters used for treatments are rich in health-giving minerals and the spa is an oasis of beauty and sophistication.

The Property
Accommodation: the 30 rooms are all very tastefully furnished and are graded in three levels of comfort and views: Classic, Superior and Deluxe. All have a balcony, a small terrace or a covered patio. A very elegantly furnished and peaceful “reading room” is available for the use of guests.
Shared areas: rooms, reception hall and restaurant are immersed in a beautiful garden, with lemon and fig trees, oleanders, bougainvillea, hibiscus and palms. The pool is surrounded by a terrace paved in terracotta and has a superb view of the sea and the volcano island of Stromboli. A path leads down to a beautiful small beach. Depending on the weather, meals are served in a protected gazebo or on the splendid covered terrace overlooking the garden and the sea. The fresh Aeolian salad with local capers is perfect for a light lunch and there is a dinner menu rich in local produce.
The Area
The Hotel is ideally located, 5 minutes walk from the central piazza of Malfa (with a few shops, the pharmacy and of course the beautiful Church with its “belvedere”).
Salina is the greenest and the most fertile of the Aeolian Islands (now a UNESCO World Heritage Site), famous for its capers and the sweet Malvasia wine.
Its ancient name, “Didyme”, means twins and refers to the camel-hump shape of its two long-extinct volcanic cones. The are excellent opportunities for walking.
Salina is neither as developed for tourists as Vulcano or Lipari nor as fashionable (expensive) as Panarea, but boasts some excellent restaurants, cafés and shops. A reliable bus service connects the main villages, making it easy to explore the most beautiful sites on the island. Cars and mopeds are also available for rent.
Things "not to be missed" on Salina include the charming towns of Santa Marina (10 mins), Malfa (15 minutes) and Rinella (15 minutes), the beach of Pollara (15 minutes), made famous by the film “Il Postino”. All of these are easily accessible by car or bus. For the more energetic, the walks to Mount Fossa delle Felci and Mount Porri are stunning.
Salina’s central position in the archipelago makes it the perfect base for easy day trips to the 6 main islands in the Aeolian group. These are easily accessible using the regular hydrofoil services.
