Inside: The original farmhouse and wine pressing room have been imaginatively restored to create a series of articulated living areas. The first floor of the farmhouse hosts the master bedroom, with adjacent bathroom that is effectively en-suite if the room below is unoccupied (see below). The master bedroom features a mezzanine floor (that could sleep two children if required), and a large shaded terrace with spectacular views. Downstairs is a living area on two levels. The upper level hosts a double bed, that would share the first floor bathroom if used. The lower level has a cosy tv room with sofas which leads to the kitchen and then on to another double room with adjacent bathroom and a small terrace with steps leading to the garden. From the TV room, a couple of steps lead to the vast pressing room (the "Palmento") providing a superb location for the main living and dining areas, access to the wine cellar and to a large bathroom with sauna and seamless communication with the spectacular sea view terraces. This room also features a large, private mezzanine floor with twin beds. At the end of this hall is the third double bedroom (with an irregularly shaped double bed), which uses the bathroom with wonderful oversized shower and sauna. This room also has a double bed on a mezzanine.
Confused? Il Palmento dei Castagni is no ordinary house! Basically although there are 3 proper double bedrooms, each with a double bed, we rent it as a "4 bedroom" house for 8 guests. For the fourth "bedroom", clients may choose between the mezzanine in the Palmento and the double bed on the upper level of the living room. In addition, the two mezzanines in the bedrooms will be made available for a supplement if required, to host a maximum of 12 guests.
Outside: Il Palmento dei Castagni is set on panoramic terraced land just outside the charming town of Sant'Alfio. The house opens onto a large terrace offering plenty of shade, a panoramic dining area and lots of space to relax and take in the views. To one side is a well-equipped outdoor kitchen and pizza oven and to the other a large grassy area is great for playing games, including football, for which a couple of goals have been provided! The pool is beautifully situated in a sheltered area about 100m down the hill from the terrace, and has a shaded summer house for poolside dining. Next to the pool is a charming wood, perfect for a stroll or just for escaping the heat of the day.

Think About
The village of Sant'Alfio is a brisk walk from the house, if you are an enthusiastic walker. Also close by is the "Il Cantante" winery owned by Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall which will be pleased to welcome visitors and offer tours and tastings. There are also several other wineries in the area which produce the excellent Etna Rosso using indigenous grape varieties.
Many of the stairs in the property do not have banisters. The extra beds on the mezzanines are accessed by a ladder and would be perfect for teenagers and relatively athletic people!
