Overview
The villages of the Madonie mountains are just a step or two behind the modern world. But for fabulous walking and a taste of a Sicily unchanged for generations, we love this area. La Soprana is on the top floor of a Palazzo in the main square of the village of Petralia Soprana and offers thinking travellers the opportunity to experience Sicilian mountain life at first hand. The apartment of La Soprana is extremely light and airy and gives a real sensation of space, enhanced by the fabulous views from every room which encompass the village, the surrounding farmland, the Madonie mountains and Mount Etna.
The Property
Inside: the apartment is on the top floor of the Palazzo, up a flight of about 50 stone steps. It is simply and tastefully furnished and has a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a single bedroom. There is a bathroom, a sitting room with a balcony and a sitting/dining room with a small terrace overlooking the town and the mountains. The kitchen is small and adequately (though simply) equipped.
Outside: Petralia Soprana is a real gem of a town and seeps rural Sicily from every pore. The most important church, “la chiesa madre”, is of a mixture of styles stretching back over 1,000 years (quite typical of the villages in the Madonie). There are a couple of good and very reasonably priced trattorie and a few local bars in the town. The town of Petralia Soprana is set at an altitude of 1,150 metres, so though it can get cold in the winter it is quite fresh in summer.

There are a couple of excellent and very reasonably priced local trattoria's and a few local bars in Soprana, as there are in all the nearby villages.
Petralia is an ideal base for walking in the Madonie mountains. There is a good network of marked paths and we will provide you with a good walking map.
Other gems of the Madonie, such as Polizzi Generosa, Gangi and Petralia Sottana are within easy driving distance, and a little further afield day trips to Cefalu', Palermo and Monreale and even Mount Etna are quite feasible.

thinkAbout
Fabulous walking in the Madonie Mountains, though the “marked” paths require pretty good route finding abilities. Beach at Lascari or Cefalu just 1 hour away. Guests may use the pool at Donalegge (see wineries), 20 minutes drive away if they eat at the restaurant there.
