A modern house built in colonial style; it offers style, practicality, live-in service, direct access to the seafront and excellent access on foot to the beach of Mondello or the Telimar private beach club, as well as to many excellent restaurants. The hospitality at La Vela has been highly recommended by our clients, and includes a welcome dinner, access to exclusive private golf, tennis and sailing clubs and the possibility of chartering the owner's boat.
The Property
Inside: the house is on two floors. The front door opens onto the upper floor, and leads you directly to the living room and the picture windows with sea views of Addaura and the gulf of Mondello. The living room is furnished to a very high standard, with comfortable sofas, fireplace and large dining table. The views are stunning from every corner of the room. Behind the living room is the kitchen. Also on the upper floor are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bedroom has sea views; the other has views to the rear of the house. Downstairs is another double bedroom with garden views and ensuite bathroom, a study area with a PC with Internet connection and a massage table (massages available on request). The ensuite staff room is also on this floor.
Outside: the private 2 car garage leads into the garden and up some steps to the front door. The garden itself is rich with Mediterranean plants and a well kept lawn. A gate from the front of the garden leads out onto a narrow access road and then onto the rocks, from which one may normally swim. On the upper floor, and in seamless communication with the living room, is a large, teak decked terrace that surrounds the house on two sides. This terrace offers beautiful sea views, comfortable sitting, lounging and dining areas, and plenty of shade.

The Area
la Vela is within easy walking distance of the long sandy beach of Mondello and of the private Telimar club. The Telimar is of particular interest in the summer, when the beach becomes quite crowded. A beautiful stroll along the beach takes one first to a few bars and shops, then on to the Charleston restaurant which is set overhanging the sea on the Liberty style pier, and finally to the village of Mondello, which boasts several excellent restaurants. 15 minutes driving will take you into Palermo, with all its historical and contemporary wonders.
Owing to its ease of access to the motorway just north of Palermo (and therefore avoiding the Palermo ringroad) Mondello is also an excellent base for exploring Western Sicily including the Greek cities of Segesta and Selinunte, Erice, Trapani and the Zingaro nature reserve to name a few.

Think About
The coast road runs behind the villa, but is barely audible from the terrace, the garden or the front bedrooms. The smallest bedroom faces onto the road, but the excellent double glazing means that it would not disturb us. The exceedingly hospitable owner offers guests a welcome dinner and admission to a series of exclusive private sports clubs in Palermo. It is also possible to rent the owner's boat with skipper. One complimentary dinner is included in the weekly price!
