The Property
Inside: on the ground floor is a large original kitchen featuring local ceramics and terracotta, a bathroom and a living room with three sofas that can be converted into comfortable single beds for children or teens. An external stairway leads to the first floor terrace and on to two spacious double bedrooms with views of the garden, the volcanic mountain behind and the sea with Stromboli and Panarea in the distance. Both bedrooms have antique tiled floors. A short corridor leads to a bathroom with shower and to a walk-in wardrobe. Note that the access to the second bedroom is via the first bedroom. A few steps down from the central patio is a “palmento” (wine press) which has been converted into a charming bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom.
Outside: outside the ground floor is a large, panoramic, furnished terrace with relaxing and dining areas. A smaller terrace leads to the upper bedrooms, while the palmento has a roof terrace offering even more sensational views. A small garden with lemon trees, cacti, prickly pears and a range of aromatic plants surrounds the house.
The Area
Salina is the greenest and the most fertile of the Aeolian Islands (now a UNESCO World Heritage Site), famous for its capers and the sweet Malvasia wine.
Salina is neither as developed for tourists as Vulcano or Lipari nor as fashionable (expensive) as Panarea, but boasts some excellent restaurants, cafés and shops. A reliable bus service connects the main villages, making it easy to explore the most beautiful sites on the island. Cars and mopeds are also available for rent.
Things "not to be missed" on Salina include the charming towns of Santa Marina (10 mins), Malfa (5 minutes) and Rinella (15 minutes), the beach of Pollara (15 minutes), made famous by the film “Il Postino”. All of these are easily accessible by car or bus. For the more energetic, the walks to Mount Fossa delle Felci and Mount Porri are stunning.
Salina’s central position in the archipelago makes it the perfect base for easy day trips to the other islands. The 6 main islands in the Aeolian group are easily accessible using the regular hydrofoil services.

Think About
Salina offers some wonderful walking on well-marked paths. Boat trips and excursions around the other islands are easy to organise. Independent transport is necessary though there is a good bus service around the island. Cars, mopeds, and motorised trikes may be rented locally. You may also bring a car on the ferry from Milazzo.
