The Property
Inside:
the Palmento - Passing through the rather unassuming entrance to the Palmento is akin to entering Dr. Who's tardis. Space, light and perspectives abound. The Palmento is home to a large open-plan area that includes the living, kitchen and dining zones. Columns and arches partially separate the different spaces, as does the central fireplace. Suspended above the entrance is a small double bedroom that is closed off by thick hanging curtains. On the same level, but towards the rear, there is a TV area, a bathroom with bath and stairs that take you to a bizarre cubby hole room that will certainly become the "den" for any children in your party. Yet another spiral staircase takes you, rather unexpectedly, through a wardrobe into the villa.
the Villa - from the "wardrobe" entrance you access a double room, which, alongside the bedroom in the Palmento, will complete the accommodation for groups of 4. For groups of 6, the bedroom accesses a living area with views over the main courtyard, a dining room and another double bedroom with bathroom (a small rectangular tub and shower).
Outside: the kitchen in the Palmento leads out onto a terrace garden, complete with fruit trees and space for outdoor dining. About 20 metres from the Palmento entrance there is a newly-constructed pool surrounded by lawns ideal for relaxing and sunbathing, while in the Baroque villa's main courtyard there is a private chapel.
The Area
Cacchiamo is right in the centre of Sicily, on the south-eastern edge of the Madonie mountains, but also not far from the Nebrodi mountains, making it easy for nature lovers and walkers to explore some of the most fascinating landscapes that Sicily has to offer. The historic hill-top city of Enna is 26km away and the Palermo-Catania motorway just a 15-minute drive, considerably facilitating excursions to both sides of the island. The countryside is quite gentle with rolling hills and immense views. The seasons dictate the colours of this agricultural region and the vast cultivations of wheat which dominate the scenery pass from lush, vibrant greens to the burnt-golds and yellows of the harvest period. When we say that Cacchiamo is off the beaten track, we are not exaggerating in any way: you will find virtually no tourists in the immediate vicinity. There are no shops in the village of Cacchiamo, but supplies can be found easily in Villa Doro just 2km away. The larger historic town of Nicosia is just 16km east.
