The Property
There are four apartments, each sleeping two people:
Casa Colonica: a fully furnished bungalow, complete with double bedroom, bathroom, living area and fully equipped kitchen. There is a sofa bed in the living room that could be suitable for children. It also has a private garden area.
Frantoio: the original olive press complete with original stone press, open plan sleeping and living areas and a bathroom with shower. Built to resist the hot Arabian wind, the Scirocco, its enormously thick walls make air-con superfluous.
Palmento: the original winery complete with stone tank where the grapes were pressed, open plan sleeping and living areas and a bathroom with shower. Built to resist the hot Arabian wind, the Scirocco, its enormously thick walls make air-con superfluous.
Fienile: the original hay barn, complete with living area, sleeping area on a mezzanine and bathroom with shower.
All the apartments are furnished with comfortable sofas, a fridge and satellite TV. Casa Colonica and Fienile have air-conditioning.
Outside: the focal point of the external areas is undoubtedly the wonderful pool, though the surrounding estate, full of centuries-old olive trees and other wooded areas that offer excellent walking and mountain-biking opportunities. The restaurant offers al fresco dining with wonderful views of the surrounding area.
The Area
Masseria Maggiore is situated just 2km from the north coast of Sicily and the seaside town of Castel di Tusa. Its position between Sicily’s two most impressive mountain ranges, the Madonie and the Nebrodi, ensures that fabulous walking is never far away. It is also just 30 minutes from the charming Mediaeval town of Cefalu' and about 1.5 hours from Palermo. The charming town of Santo Stefano di Camastra, famous for its exquisite ceramics, is also just a stone's throw away.
Rocky and pebbly beaches line this part of the coast offering a variety of bathing options.
Along the coast and in the hills behind Castel di Tusa are 8 sculptures that make up the "fiumara d'arte" (the art river). From the huge labyrinth to the window on the sea, these impressive and controversial structures must be seen to be believed.
