About the Property


Inside: accommodation at Ortigia is spread over the ground and first floors of a sea-front house. The private entrance takes one into a small hallway, off which are two bedrooms, a double and a twin. The former accesses a bathroom which is shared with the twin. Stairs lead up to the first floor, home to a panoramic, comfortably furnished living area overlooking the sea, a dining room, a small, but well-equipped kitchen, and the lovely sea-view master bedroom with en-suite bathroom.

Outside: a second flight of stairs lead up from the first floor to the fabulous roof-top terrace, which offers stunning views over the sea and the coastline of Syracuse. Here there is a barbecue, a sink and a fully furnished lounge and dining area, where you will be able to eat, relax and soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere from on high! Being located in the historic centre of Ortigia, you may consider this wonderful little island to be your own back yard, with its restaurants, bars, market and shops all but a gentle, highly pleasurable stroll away!

Exploring the local Area

Following the defeat of the Athenians in 413 BC Syracuse was arguably the most important city in the Mediterranean (and hence perhaps the world). Remains of that period are beautifully preserved in Ortygia, at Neapolis and in the fabulous archeological museum, all of which are within a few minutes walk or drive of Ortigia. Syracuse is not just an Ancient Greek museum however. The old baroque island city of Ortygia, from which our apartment takes its name, offers a marvellous choice of restaurants, bars and shops in beautiful piazzas and on the sea front. One of the highlights for foodies is the wonderful daily street market and the speciality food shops that make Siracusa a real gastronomic centre... Also within easy distance are white sandy beaches, towns such as Noto, Modica and Ragusa, Mount Etna, and much more.
