Pietra Nera, panoramic villa with pool near Taormina

Inside: the heart of Pietra Nera is the delightful double-sized living and dining area, whose high white-beamed ceilings, comfy sofas and French windows make it light and airy in the summer months and, thanks to the fireplace, cozily snug when the temperature drops a little. The living area gives way to the splendidly large, fully equipped kitchen, complete with a breakfast table . A variety of windows and French doors make the kitchen both wonderfully panoramic (imagine chopping your onions while looking at Mount Etna... mind your fingers!) and strategically positioned to cater for the two main al fresco dining areas and barbecue. The ground floor is also home to three lovely double en-suite bedrooms, two of which are accessed only from the outside terraces. Stairs lead to the first floor landing, with its panoramically positioned desk, and the en-suite master bedroom (with both tub and shower), complete with a private "view-soaked" terrace. The villa has recently been refurbished and fitted to the very highest levels and furnishings are a winning mix of original Sicilian and contemporary design.

Outside: the terraces and gardens surrounding the house can be accessed from a variety of points. Lawns give way to a rich variety of flora, including prickly pear trees, palm trees, papyrus and an aromatic herb garden. Subtly hidden away from the house, past the fruit trees (why not pick a refreshing peach or two on your way?) is the delightful pool complete with shady pergola and 360-degree views of the coast below, Mount Etna beyond and luxuriant green countryside all around. A super-panoramic Jacuzzi is being installed for the 2012 season.
