Profondo Blu takes its name from the enticing colour of the sea that gently caresses the long sandy expanse of beach below. Sun-baked Mediterranean maquis, shady trees and succulent plants make up the 15 hectares of private nature reserve that envelope the house in a cocoon of fragrant tranquility, providing the perfect retreat for those wishing to get away from the rigours of everyday life.

About the Property

Inside: the house is all on one level and is accessed initially from a sheltered courtyard to the rear. The main body of the house is given over to a large, comfortable open-plan living and dining area with direct access to the sea-view terrace. Off this area is the well-equipped kitchen which also opens on to the sea terrace and the al fresco dining area. A corridor leads past the kitchen to the sleeping quarters comprised by 3 double bedrooms sharing 2 bathrooms with showers.

Outside: the focal point for guests at Profondo Blu is without doubt the large panoramic sea-view terrace. Cushioned sofas are arranged to maximise the views, while the al fresco dining areas is served directly from the indoor kitchen, an outdoor wood-burning pizza oven and a barbecue area. An easy path leads for about 50m from the terrace down to the sea gate and from there on to a series of delightful sandy beaches beyond. Even in the height of summer the beaches along this stretch of coast are sparsely populated. Behind the house is a large sheltered courtyard terrace, offering an alternative dining and relaxing area, and a cool pine wood that is part of the 15 hectares of pristine nature reserve - all yours to explore!

Safely fenced in, some distance from the house, are the owners' 2 horses, ostrich and flock of mouflon (a type of sheep, apparently!).

Exploring the local Area

The beauty and peace of your own personal nature reserve may make it difficult to pull yourselves away but you really should visit Selinunte and have a superb lunch or dinner on the beach at the restaurant La Pineta. Several of the towns nearby are also well worth a visit. Sciacca has a charming old centre, some great restaurants and a working port with a large fishing fleet that works the Mediterannean daily. Caltabellotta is spectacularly situated in the craggy hills overlooking both coast and interior, while Menfi is an up-and-coming centre of excellence for the wine trade... to name a few.

The beaches in the area of Porto Palo-Menfi have received 13 consecutive "Bandiere Blu", attesting to the cleanliness of the water and their general ecological excellence.

The work as well as the passion and love for nature of two generations gave the amazing result and made the dream come true... When one comes to Profundo Blu it feels like entering another dimension. The garden is beautiful and mysterious, the house is comfortable and the interior tasteful, the view is breathtaking. After a few moments you know that you are in just right place. The garden is surrounded with the vineyards which produce the wine perfectly matching the place, in Urra di Mare you can taste the scents that you feel in the air... Adn what a nice surprise finding a cold bottle of this wine waiting for us when we arrived as well as fresh ricotta and figs fromthe garden. You just can't dream it better. After just couple of days in this amazing place we were relaxed, fresh and just happy... We couldn't recommend Profundo Blu more..."
