Overview
Respiro is a stunningly positioned, modern villa whose splendid panoramas take in vast tracts of the Ionian Sea, Calabria on the Italian mainland and Taormina a couple of kilometres to the south. Built with luxury in mind, Respiro has an infinity pool overlooking the sea and a Jacuzzi hot tub overlooking the characteristic ravines of the area.
The Property
Inside: the main entrance takes you into a spacious open-plan living-dining-kitchen area with comfortable sofas, a dining table seating 10 and a new, fully-equipped kitchen. Also on the same floor are two bedrooms, a double (with en-suite bathroom) and a twin/double (with a bathroom next door). Moving up the spiral, windowed atrium staircase to the first floor, there are two more double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and the master suite. This latter has not only a large walk-in shower but also a Jacuzzi tub. The picture windows of the suite ensure spectacular views whether you are in bed or relaxing in the tub.
Outside: a driveway rises to the top of a ridge giving an unexpected, spectacular view of the Villa, the sea, and the wide-open panoramas of the Taorminan countryside. Just behind the house is the outside hot tub Jacuzzi, an exquisite spot for a sundowner, while just below is the infinity pool and sunbathing areas. There are several terraces around the Villa and gardens with fruit trees and other Mediterranean flora.
The Area
If you manage to tear yourself away from the villa, directly below is the seaside town and beaches of Letojanni, while on the next rocky outcrop stands Taormina with its Greek-Roman amphitheatre. Mount Etna, Europe's highest volcano, is just a short drive away as are the towns of Catania, Aci Trezza and Aci Castello. A little further afield, though still only about 1.5 hours away is Siracusa.
Letojanni has a few supermarkets and shops and a good choice of restaurants and bars.
