Overview
Originally a 16th century fortified grain tower, Torre Marabino has been lovingly and meticulously transformed into a super chic boutique hotel. The soft local stone of the original construction offers a cool elegance to the interiors, while the luxuriant gardens, featuring aged olive trees, hanging vines, palms and perfect lawns offer plenty of shady areas for relaxation. The stunning pool, the laid back atmosphere and the gourmet restaurant make it difficult for guests to tear themselves away to visit the fascinating Baroque towns in the area or to sample the large selection of sandy beaches nearby.
The Property
Accommodation: Torre Marabino is home to seven well-proportioned, classically furnished rooms and suites named after the excellent wines produced by the owner. All have en-suite bathrooms with showers, air-conditioning, satellite TV, Internet access, safe and a mini bar. The three suites have a mezzanine sleeping area and a living area below. The three Superior rooms and the standard room are large and spacious with wonderful view down towards the sea or over the surrounding countryside.
Shared areas: the gardens surrounding Torre Marabino are beautifully tended and a delight to relax in, as is the superb pool, complete with Jacuzzi. The excellent, highly respected restaurant spills out onto the outside terraces during the summer months, offering an enchanting al fresco atmosphere and exquisite delicacies for the palate. Breakfast may also be taken outside under a vine-covered trellis. A play area with swings and a slide complete Torre Marabino making it suitable for families with younger children.
The Area
Torre Marabino is situated a couple of miles south of Ispica, one of several delightful Baroque towns that dot this south-eastern corner of Sicily (the other, more famous ones, are Noto, Ragusa, Modica and Scicli). Some of the islands loveliest sandy beaches are in easy striking distance, including those at Pozzallo, Marina di Modica and Sampieri. Slightly further afield, but easy day trips, are the ancient town of Syracuse and Vendicari Nature Reserve.
