Overview
Nestled amongst the olive trees of a fourteen hectare (35 acre) estate that slopes gently down to a fabulous coastline, Villa Lumia boasts the elusive combination of a beautiful pool and direct access to sandy beaches that is so often requested by our clients. Newly refurbished to a high standard, with en-suite bathrooms for every bedroom and a large infinity pool with glorious views the property offers privacy, comfort, style and practicality. Particularly well suited for families with children, Villa la Lumia is also an excellent property for a grown up family or a group of friends.
The Property
Inside: arrival at the house is via a long winding drive through the olive groves. Villa Lumia is on two floors. On the ground floor is a large living area, with sofas, open fireplace and dining table. The kitchen is very well equipped, and there is a small service kitchen beside it with an extra stove. Also on this floor are a double bedroom and a bedroom with a bunk bed. On the upper floor, which is accessible via both inside and outside staircases, are two large double bedrooms with walk-in windows leading to the panoramic terrace. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers.
Outside: the estate is in an outstanding position, with views of the countryside and the sea all around. The house has two terraces. The covered one on the ground floor is wonderful for long lunches shaded from the summer sun, whereas the upper terrace is fabulous in the morning and the evening. The 12x6 metre infinity pool with teak decking will surely be one of the focual points of your holiday. There is also a small play area for children and an outdoor bathroom with shower. The nearest sandy beach is a 10-minute walk down the hill across a couple of fields or a 4 minute drive. The coastline is fairly deserted even in the height of summer. The owner produces an excellent olive oil on the estate.
The Area
Villa Lumia is four kilometres from Sciacca, a working fishing town with a well preserved and fascinating historic centre and some excellent shops and restaurants. Sciacca was founded by the Greeks in the fifth century BC, when the residents of Selinunte made use of its hot thermal springs as a spa. There are several thermal spa complexes in and around the town where visitors can bathe in the hot sulphurous waters. The town was prosperous during the occupation of the Saracens from the ninth century, but the most impressive buildings date from the time of the Normans. Sciacca is well placed for visiting the Greek sites of both Selinunte and The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, and is a little over one hour drive from Palermo, making it a strategic base for several excursions. The coast around Sciacca is sprinkled with excellent sandy beaches.
