About the Property

Inside: from the front door, one enters the communal part of the house whose layout is perfect for a convivial holiday party and voluminous enough to hold the living, dining and kitchen areas without ever feeling crowded. The living area has comfortable sofas, two fireplaces and an entertainment area with large flat screen TV. In the centre of the house is the dining table, and beyond that the superbly equipped and wonderfully social kitchen leading out to a dining terrace, the garden and the pool. The four double bedrooms all have en-suite bathrooms and two of them have a bathtub in the room itself. There is also a study, with a desk and a sofa bed. Furnishings and decor are contemporary and stylish throughout.

Outside: the house is reached via an unpaved road winding through the olive groves and set in several acres of private land, dotted with Mediterranean trees and maquis, giving a sense of sublime privacy and tranquillity. It is on the top of one of several low hills that gently undulate down towards the sandy beaches of the Vendicari Nature Reserve. The wide doors of the kitchen and living area lead directly out into a shaded pergola with a dining table offering superb views of the terraces, the garden and the pool. The pool itself is set in a stunning position, surrounded by a large solarium with superb views over the dry stone walls of the grounds, across the olive groves and down towards the sea. There is plenty of opportunity for leisurely strolls through the olive groves.

The Area

Exploring the local Area

Casa Carcicera is set in rolling hills between the fascinating baroque town of Noto and the beautiful natural reserve of Vendicari. Noto is the most easterly of a chain of baroque towns now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also perhaps the most perfect of the baroque towns, which were all rebuilt in flamboyant style following a major earthquake in 1693. The Vendicari nature reserve boasts some of the finest sandy beaches in Sicily, which are pleasingly under populated even in the height of summer. Vendicari is also home to thousands of migrating flamingos, and sea turtles nest on its beaches.

If hiking in the hills is your thing, then there is some spectacular scenery in the rushing streams and waterfalls of Cassibile and at the Paleolithic burial sites in the dramatic valley of Pantalica.

Siracusa is just half an hour's drive away, and a day there is highly recommended to anybody spending a week or two at Casa Carcicera. A little further afield, the other baroque towns of Modica, Ragusa and Scicli are easily reachable in a day.

"Beautiful house with outstanding facilities and equipment. Perfect for 3-4 couples because of en-suite bathrooms in each room. Very secluded location appealing to visitors looking for intimacy, tranquillity and spectacular views, less so for visitors looking for action. Access road could be challenging depending of weather but worth the effort once you discover the villa and surroundings! Fabulous experience form A to Z!"
