Memories are made of this...

"Sweet, sweet, the memories you gave-a me, You can't beat, the memories you gave-a me..", sang Dean Martin!

All the thinkSicily team spend several weeks a year touring Sicily, visiting our villas and getting to know fantastic places around the island. Here are some of their best memories of Sicily.

Huw and Rossella, founders of thinkSicily

1. Sleeping on the peak of Stromboli (don't tell anyone ;-) and watching the fireworks, then running down the steep slopes of volcanic dust and diving into the warm cobalt sea. That was in November 2000, and was the experience that prompted us to start The Thinking Traveller, and Think Sicily.

Sian

Finance Director

1. Back in 1999 on my first ever visit to Sicily, we ate Spaghetti in a restaurant over looking the sea below Selinunte.  I could not believe how good such a simple dish could taste.  It was fabulous.
2.  Watching my children playing and splashing in the sea at Mondello in November whilst the local children watched in their ski jackets.
2.  Swimming in the clear sea off Levanzo and then walking cross country to visit the ancient cave paintings.

1. a helicopter flight over the Aeolian Islands: wow is all I can really say! Who’d want to travel by hydrofoil again after seeing Lipari and Vulcano from the air. Truly one of the greatest experiences of my life.
2. Lunch at Egesta: despite our protestations that we needed to go, the owner insisted we stay to eat a lunch of ham, salami, fresh ricotta and local wine. Simple food but incredible tastes and the warmth of the owner's welcome made it difficult to pull myself away.

1. My Etna 4X4 adventure was an amazing experience. The view from the different parts of the volcano are breathtaking and to walk on the lava is a lovely, strange feeling.

Client Manager

1. Sipping a glass of wine while sitting in the outdoor Jacuzzi at Respiro watching the stars twinkle …. think RELAX!
2. Swimming in the pool at Egesta then eating wild strawberries and fresh ricotta .. think REFRESH!

Andrea

Sales and Operations Director

1. My first is watching the sunset from Erice over the Egadi Islands: absolutely amazing. The views from Erice are always incredible, but I think if you get a good sunset you will never forget it!
2. Sicilian food! Staying at Don Arcangelo all'Olmo was a wonderful experince for many reasons, but one was certainly the food. I have particularly fond memories of the pistachio pie! (see photo below right of Andrea tucking in!)
3. I was also lucky to stay at Badia while in Sicily. Swimming is a breathtaking experience there: Mount Etna rises behind you and the sparkling sea stretches out in front of you. A pool with a view!

1. One of my best memories of Sicily was the day spent on a catamaran sailling up the east coast from Catania to Aci Trezza with the Think Sicily team, drinking wine and eating arancini.  Although it was December the weather was amazing and I almost forgot it was winter!’
