| Siracusa - the capital of Magna Graecia |
|
Siracusa was the most important city of Magna Graecia. It defeated the mighty Athens in 413 and was home to many a great Greek, including the inimitable Archimedes. At the height of its economic, political and military powers, the city had a population of 300,000 and, according to Cicero, was "the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all". For those travelling to Sicily today, Siracusa is not to be missed.

Recipe of the month: Zuppa di Fave |
|
Fava beans (or broad beans) are, historically, a staple dietary component of Sicilian food. It is used in the local cuisine on a very strict seasonal basis and is just finding its way to the street markets as we write. Anyone yearning for fava beans at other times of the year simply has to go without! An ideal healthy meal for winter evenings: it warms, tastes great and signals the coming of Spring.

| The Leopard Collection - villas with history |
|
The Leopard, by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, is arguably the greatest Italian novel of the 20th Century and essential reading for anyone interested in Sicily.
The title refers to the coat of arms of the family of the main character, Don Fabrizio, but in reality it was also the coat of arms of the author's very own family, the Principi di Lampedusa. The book focuses on the waning fortunes of the Sicilian aristocracy during the Risorgimento (the unification of Italy) and how the balance of power shifted from the upper echelons of society to a new, self-made middle class, often of dubious repute.........

| "Eternity. It is the sea mingled with the sun." |
|
| |
| Villas in the sun and on the sea! |
|
If it's Eternity (as defined by Rimbaud) you're after, if only for a week or two(!), then we might just have something to help you in your quest. And the sun comes for free.....
Our portfolio contains over 20 villas right on the sea. This not only makes for fantastic sea views and sunsets, but also you will have none of the hassle of packing up the car to drive off the the beach. In many properties the sea will be your own, as access is often only possible from the villa or via the sea.
Pop down for a swim before breakfast, take a dip while the sun is setting or paddle out into the wine dark sea with just the moon and stars for company....you'll never have to go far!
