March 2006

The heat is on....

January and February have come and gone and March is disappearing fast. The summer is but a dream away and summer holidays are on everyone’s mind.

Here at Think Sicily we are very glad to have been working so hard, arranging what we know will be fantastic holidays for hundreds of groups.

For those of you who haven’t booked yet, you’re still (just) in time. But don’t leave it too late as we would hate to disappoint you!

Ask us for a list of Think Sicily properties that are still  available for some periods of June and July.

This month's recipe.... Involtini alla Palermitana

Spring rolls might be more famous, but Sicilian versions are well worth a try, be they swordfish rolls (see January's recipe of the month), aubergine rolls or veal rolls. This last type is our recipe for the month. As with many other Sicilian dishes that are part of our recipe page, this dish also draws upon Arab-Maghreb influences, using pine kernels and raisins, ingredients that are very reminiscent of many North African delicacies.                   Go to recipes >>

Cefalu' - the Jewel in Roger's Crown

Just one hour's drive east of Palermo, sitting serenely between its natural bay and the towering rocky granite mass of La Rocca, is Cefalu'. For a small town, Cefalu' offers a great deal, including sandy beaches, winding Mediaeval streets flanked with all manner of shops, excellent restaurants serving the freshest of fish and last but probably first, its unique Norman cathedral. Featured Property:  Marina

 Tradition, magic and fireworks .......

Looking for a truly enchanting place to stay? No matter if you’re a Sicily veteran or if it’s your first time, the Aeolian Islands may provide the magic you desire. This month's featured property, Marina, situated on Salina, has retained all its Aeolian charm and original features but has been lovingly brought into the comfort zone of the 21st Century.
It is not only the relaxing colours, the cool shady terraces and the elegant simplicity of the furnishings that make Marina so special, however...

Next time you’re trudging into a cutting easterly wind, imagine yourself sitting down to dinner on the main terrace, the cicadas gently whirring their own very special vespers, the distant echo of the waves caressing the shores down below, the sun's sudden plunge for the west, the sudden appearance of galazies of stars dotting the night sky, hints of bougainvillea, jasmine and a thousand and one other fragrances wafting in the warm, drowsy air.......and, if you're lucky, in the distance, Stromboli, one of Europe's most active volcanoes, disgorging, fiery incandescent sprays of lava high into the air.

Now if that isn’t magical…… See all our Aeolian properties >>
