Recipe of the month: marinated prawns

"Gamberoni", or king prawns are a real treat for most Sicilians. Often they are simply grilled, though another popular way is to soak them in a tangy but subtle marinade for several hours. If they are really, really fresh, they can be eaten raw. However, if you prefer your seafood cooked, toss them for a couple of minutes in a frying pan along with their marinade and the end result will be an elegant, simple, light and mouthwatering, antipasti.

The Greek Theatre Festival in Siracusa

May and June in Syracuse are dedicated almost exclusively to a unique festival of Greek theatre. The archaeological park opens its doors to a different kind of visitor as thousands descend on the amphitheatre to see re-enactments of classics written by the likes of Euripides, Sophocles and Aristophanes. This year, from 10th May to 24th June, Sophocles' Trachiniae will alternate with Euripedes' Heracles. While productions are in Italian, the unique setting and atmosphere make it an absolutely unforgettable experience.

The most marvellous mosaics........

Situated deep in the Sicilian hinterland, at 721 metres above sea level, stands Piazza Armerina, one of Sicily’s most frequented tourist spots. However, it is not the town that most people come to see, but the famous Villa Romana del Casale. Built as a hunting lodge by a Roman patrician in the middle of the 4th Century AD (it is not known for sure who the owner was) the Villa is home to some of the best preserved and extensive examples of Roman mosaics that you will find anywhere. Spreading over some 3500m².......

"If winter comes, can spring be far behind?"

Spring in Sicily

If Shelley had been in Sicily in 2006-2007 he would probably never have written these famous lines. Not because Sicily wouldn't have been inspiring enough, but rather because Autumn and Spring this year have taken Winter out of the seasonal equation. "Primavera" is already here and set to last through to its wonderful climax in May when the sea warms up (but the beaches are virtually deserted) and walkers take to the mountains to enjoy the luxuriant, kaleidoscopic flush of colour.

Spring (including Easter) is, in many ways, the perfect time of year to visit Sicily and Think Sicily is sure to have the perfect accommodation for you and your group.
