Welcome to our first newsletter

Greetings from Sicily and welcome to our new newsletter, the aims of which are to give you insights into Sicily past and present, and to whet your appetite for your visit with some tempting holiday ideas (and perhaps some mouthwatering recipes and wine reviews).

October is an ideal month for visiting Sicily. The beaches are deserted, the sea heated up by the scorching August sun, and the weather is just a tad cooler. The photo on the left was taken last October in Favignana, just before a dip in the sea.

So, if you haven't had a holiday yet, or the one you had has become a distant memory, Think Sicily could be just what "il dottore" ordered.

Bacchus is Back!

In September and early October most Sicilian vineyards will be completing their grape harvesting intent on creating another year's great vintage. Indeed our wineries, Masseria Pernice and Virzi', are doubly busy at the moment ensuring not only that their guests are enjoying their stay but also that next year's guests will have something delicious to drink! Sicilian wine is rapidly becoming more widely appreciated and our two wineries have recently won important international awards.

Olives Galore

Meanwhile towards the end of September and through October at Mandranova, near Agrigento, some of the finest olive oil you're ever likely to taste will be being pressed from the estate's top quality olives. If you've ever wondered exactly how your extra virgin olive oil is produced, now's the time for a visit! And if you stay at Zeffiro, our villa on the beach near the archaeological park of Selinunte, or il Ferrarolo, the owners will be only too happy to show you around their extensive olive groves.

The 32nd America's cup

Acts 8 and 9 of the 32nd America's Cup will be held in the sea off Trapani between September 27th and October 8th. If you are looking for a last minute break, why not experience the thrill of this major competition whilst staying in one of our several beautiful propertiesconvenient for day trips to Trapani.

Our 2005-2006 brochure (2nd edition)

We were pleased to be invited to the annual Guardian-Observer-Guardian Unlimited travel awards last weekend. Our brochure received a "commendation" for its "clean design, quality photography and clearly set out information".

This brochure really is a labour of love. We write all the texts and take all the photos ourselves. If you don't already have a copy, please call us or order one online at www.thinksicily.com

Featured Property: L'Olmo

L'Olmo....in the lap of luxury between Etna and the sea

"Probably the best villa available for rent in Sicily" may sound like an advert for a famous beer, but when talking about L'Olmo, we could even go so far as to omit the "probably".
L'Olmo, situated on the east coast of Sicily, between Taormina and Catania, is, quite simply, enchanting. With Etna, the highest volcano in Europe, looming behind and only the lush green of the surrounding lemon orchards leading down to the crystalline blue of the sea in front, it would be difficult to ask for a more delightful setting.......Continue reading >>
