What the press says about Think Sicily and Think Puglia

27th August - How to Spend It - The FT - Puglia rebooted

...from the vantage point of my glamorous eyrie – Villa Blanca, possibly the best house in Puglia. I learn that Paolo Roversi, the great Italian fashion photographer, holidays here with his family... there is a growing concentration of new ventures from the like of The Thinking Traveller, a high-end villa rental agency from Huw and Rossella Beaugie that started in Sicily and has, as of January, spread its interests to Puglia for the first time. Its Puglia properties included Villa Blanca (where I stayed in Leuca and a sweet peppermint pink-and-pistachio beach house nearby, Le Antiche Pajare, scented with roses and oleander.

21st August - Superstar appeal of Sicily's Pantelleria Island

When Tim Pozzi, journalist for The Times, decided to write about Pantelleria as a destination, he chose to stay at Dammuso Roccavento: "a beautifully renovated dammuso, a traditional one-storey dwelling with thick stone walls... Life was meant to be lived outside here, amid the terraced gardens with their massive cacti and date palms, lounging by the infinity pool surrounded by olive and lemon groves, drinking in the glorious vistas of the sparkling Mediterranean.

11th August 2010 - Perfect Pads: Best European Villas

17th-century Masseria Lamacoppa, sleeping 11, is a new addition to Think Puglia's villa portfolio. Set in 70 acres of protected forest and olive groves with courtyards with Moroccan lemon trees, the traditional thick stone wall exterior belies the high vaulted ceilings and Italian art adorning the walls within. The original stables have been converted into a candle-lit dining room. Within the lawned garden lies a vast swimming pool and jacuzzi. There is also a Turkish bath, gym and massage table. A private chapel is available for mass on Sunday as is a car to ferry guests around the grounds.

8th August 2010 - September sun: the perfect monh for the Med

How about your own castle? Really — 1,000 years old, towers, battlements, a ghost, the lot. Built circa the 11th century by the local emir, Al Jafar is now meticulously restored, with an eagle eye for historical accuracy. Well, apart from the swimming pool. And the modern kitchen, comfy bedrooms, ensuite bathrooms and discreet solar panels.

 25th July 2010 - school holiday special: last-minute deals

Think Sicily is offering big savings. Book a week's break, departing 28 August, and high season prices drop with discounts of up to £426 on a vast selection of villas. Try Il Gabbiano, a three bedroom villa with a dramatic hillside setting and private beach access in Cefalu.

29th July 2010 - Think Puglia introduce a new villa for late summer breaks

Villa rental specialists Think Puglia - the younger sibling to The Thinking Traveller's villa company Think Sicily - has just acquired a beautiful new property in a relatively undiscovered corner of Italy. A 17th-century masseria (manor house) on the outskirts of the baroque town of Ostuni has been transformed into the Masseria Lamacoppa - a six-room villa sleeping up to 11 people. Located at the end of a long private road, the villa is great for those who want to sample life in the southern Italian countryside, and is ideal for families or groups of friends holidaying together.

22nd July 2010 - Finding a feast in Sicily, the Italian island that is simply good enough to eat

We’d booked through villa specialists Think Sicily. They suggested it because ‘everyone goes to the coast, but the interior is beautiful too; cooler, and we can arrange for you to see some cheese making there’. The villa was near-perfect: swimming pool, lilo, ample and well-equipped kitchen...

12th June 2010 - 20 Best villas by the sea

House on a rock - Perched atop a rocky outcrop in Cefalu, a meival town on Sicily's northern coast, Il Gabbiano is a three-bedroom property with 360-degree views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Whether you're kicking back in the living room, with its wood beam, sofas and huge picture window, or on one of the three terraces, you can't escape them. Follow the private path down to two sandy coves, or head to the longer beach in the centre of Cefalu.

26th June 2010 - Four of the best - Italian hotels with private beaches

Just opened on the island of Favignana, part of the wild Egadi archipelago, the beautifully designed, family-run five-bedroom Cas'almare is right on the sea... The hotel also has a private beach and beach club with sun terrace, loungers and a cafe serving sandwiches and salads at lunchtime, which it shares with the equally diminutive five-bedroom sister hotel Casa Favonio.

25th June 2010 - Belquis House feature in The Guardian

Belquis House is a gem. As I opened the double gates into a courtyard at the end of a narrow track, my first impression was of cushions – long, flat ones to lie on, squashy ones on benches carved from the smooth walls, and soft ones lying plumped in a white hammock strung between the arches of the terrace... as the sun was starting to slink behind the walls, I realised how perfectly peaceful it was...I could hear nothing... I padded around the house and garden, stopping to sniff the lemon blossom and take in the view of assorted hump-backed islands... Everything was beautiful.

14th May 2010 - top villa rentals in Italy - Gioia

Not far from Capo Passero, the southernmost point of Sicily (and Italy), Casa delle Sirene is right on the beach of Porto Ulisse. The house offers all the necessary ingredients for an "epic" holiday in a little corner of paradise. The interiors, sleeping 4, are welcoming, furnished with style and a relaxing preponderancee of white, which contrast with the green of the garden and the blue of the sea, framed by the many windows...

7th April 2010 - Best Summer Houses - Vogue US

Puglia is known for its Adriatic beaches, unspoiled villages, and distinctive conical-roofed buildings called trulli. While the area has a way to go on the hotel front, Think Puglia—a new division of Think Sicily, longtime specialists in Sicilian-villa rentals—has just debuted its small but impressive portfolio of luxury properties in the area. The most unusual is this estate (Trullo Cappaiaro) created within a series of trulli...

Best beach house: Base your family at the magnificent Villa Principe di Lumia and you can spend your holiday basking in the  Sicilian sunshine beside your private pool watching the kids play. And
just because you are in a private villa, it doesn’t mean you have to forgo the pampering you’d expect in a luxury hotel, as there is a cleaning service three times a week and you can even hire your own personal chef for the night...

 6th March 2010 - Top 50 child-free holidays

Sicilian whirlpools: You could fall in love with Poggio Pigio for the name alone. This villa, near Cefalu, definitely offers more. It’s nicely off the beaten track with a pool and great mountain and sea views. Near the hilltop village of Pollina, it’s a 15-minute drive from beaches and costs from €1,550 (£1,400) to hire for a week this month, €2,640 (£2,400) in summer.

CN Traveller's best beach villas in the world - February 2010

31st January 2010 - The best out of season European breaks

Go between now and April 1, and the luxury-villa company Think Sicily (020 7377 8518, thinksicily.com) has an excellent off-peak, couples-only deal in Cefalu, on the north coast — La Corte, a townhouse tucked away behind the cathedral, with views across red tiled roofs to the Tyrrhenian Sea, costs £990 per week, down from the normal price of £2,080, for stays before Easter.

25th January 2010 - Beach holidays: an insider's guide to Italy

Huw Beaugié of Sicily villa and boutique hotel specialist Think Sicily (020 7377 8518; www.thinksicily.com) noticed a trend last year for British clients asking for houses by the sea... Beaugié singles out two beachfront Think Sicily properties around Syracuse that sold well last year: Baia dei Turchi (sleeps nine in main house, weekly rental from £4,610) and Al Plemmirio (sleeps eight, weekly rental from £4,140). Both have pools. “However close the villa is to the beach, a pool is still a must for most UK clients,” Beaugié says. He also points out that new Ryanair flights to Trapani from Stansted, Luton, Liverpool and Dublin are opening up the west side of Sicily.

 5th September 2009

Mount Etna: a gastronimc journey around Sicily's ancient mountain of fire...where to watch the fireworks... discovering heavenly villas and vineyards en route.

Later that evening, still on a high from the heli-trip, I shared an aperitivo with Marchesa Marina di San Giuliano, the aristocratic owner of my temporary home on the east coast of the island, the Don Arcangelo all’Olmo estate, near Carruba . L’Olmo, as it is affectionately known, is a restored Sicilian casale brought to life with warm Mexican colours and softened by antique furnishing and acres of oriental kilims. Sitting out in the estate’s scented Mediterranean garden, enjoying wafts of cool air from the pool, I asked Marina whether she felt nervous about living so close to an active volcano...

Villa expert Think Sicily offers a range of Etna-based activities that include helicopter trips over Mount Etna (from €280pp) and the Aeolian Islands (from €450pp, based on five passengers sharing), 4x4 excursions to the higher slopes of Etna, and wine-tasting with a driver (020 7377 8518, www.thinksicily.com).

Il Ferrarolo: Sea views, ancient olive groves and traditional Sicilian interiors packed with antiques and artefacts make this old manor house very special; there are also the remains of a Byzantine chapel in the garden, dating the site to pre-Norman times. Footpaths through the 50-hectare estate and nearby Nebrodi Mountains will suit walkers, and the cafés and trattorie of Torrenova are within easy reach on foot. Numerous outside dining areas mean you can follow the sun around the house through the day, ending up on the broad terrace to watch the sunset, and hammocks are strung between trees in quiet shady corners. The best local beach is Tindari, near Capo d'Orlando, around 13km away.
